Montrio is an experienced criminal, civil, and educational litigator and has represented clients at all levels of South Carolina State courts and in South Carolina’s Federal District Court.  Montrio represents clients in hearings and trials in the court system as well as before local school boards and educational hearing officers.

He has successfully tried cases before a jury and relentlessly represents students and parents in urgent educational matters such as school expulsions, Special Education Due Process Hearings, and  Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings. As former school teacher, principal, and South Carolina’s Director of School Transformation, Montrio is knowledgeable of and prepared to advocate for students and parents seeking a voice in their child’s education.

Many of Montrio’s clients are ordinary citizens that have been charged with misdemeanor or felony crimes, students that have been expelled from school or are not receiving a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) that is guaranteed Exceptional Children in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), or persons that have been injured because of the negligence of somebody else.

Montrio served six years in the United States Army Reserves, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Winthrop University, and has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He also has a Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law and is admitted to practice law in South Carolina State Courts and South Carolina’s Federal District Court.
